This work depicts a series of plants that have been physically collaged together to produce a range of new fictitious plant forms. These “botanical specimens” draw upon the veracity of photography to provide proof of existence.

This work looks seriously at the environment and the way in which it is shaped by human activity. The physical recombination of the different plant forms in the work is the metaphor for the impact of human activity. It is inspired by work of Karl Blossfeldt whose images of plants documented in detail everything from lichens to marigolds, poppies to twigs. My work draws on this tradition but seeks to subvert it by challenging the viewers perception of reality and asking the question: is seeing really believing?
